PEDRO GONZALEZ MITTELBRUN
When Pedro Mittelbrun is not in the vineyards, he is teaching Viticulture & Enology at the University of León. Pedro, or Pedro “Prieto Picudo”, as he is known, has been almost single handedly responsible for reviving to native grapes Prieto Picudo and Albarin. Pedro is working with some old vines, some as old as 100 years, planted in the traditional style known as “Rasta” where the branches lie on the ground on the El Paramo Leones, a high plain (830 mts. altitude) and close to the Cantabric mountains. These are the only organically farmed vineyards of Prieto Picudo and Albarin in the region. There is no oak, no cultured yeasts, and no messing around. This guy produces some remarkable, pure, fresh, and delightful wines. Do not sleep on this producer. This juice is too good to miss!
