Scarzello

SCARZELLO

The Scarzello family began producing wine after WWII that was sold in bulk to the people of the village of Barolo and some other producers. In 1978 the winery bottled its first Barolo DOCG wine. The winery and production are tiny. They have 5ha of Nebbiolo vineyards: 2.5ha Barolo vineyards split between two Cru: 2ha Sarmassa and .5 Terlo and 2.5ha of Barbera and Nebbiolo that is not used for Barolo. The 3rd generation, Federico Scarzello, is currently in charge of the vineyards and winery and produces beautiful, traditional wines. Long macerations, very large casks, and very minimal intervention in the cellar are the hallmarks of this winery. It is almost impossible to find a great Barolo producer. Imagine how excited we were when we Federico and Federica Scarzello and realized they were also great people who are fun to work with.
