Finding a producer in Barbaresco that is unknown, owns vineyards, makes great wines, and is willing to sell them in the US is a lot like winning the lottery (I would imagine) and that is exactly how I felt when we finished tasting with Marco Piacentino this year. Socre was founded in 1958 as a solo enterprise by Marco's grandfather, and now the winery is all estate and run by Marco, his son Lorenzo, and Lorenzo's wife Rosella. Located on the southern side of Barbaresco, the winery makes a decidedly finessed style of wine. They are a rare combination of great people, great wines, and really great pricing. We are very happy to introduce Socre to the Mid-Atlantic.
